STUDIES OF PARASITIC FUNGI ON THE CANE PEST MUlR
نویسنده
چکیده
Nurnicia viridis Muir, otherwise known as the green leaf-sucker, is an important pest of sugarcane in South Africa (Anon.',"; Dick). It is capable of causing considerable damage to this crop and has therefore been the subject of repeated pest population surveys. Studies of its life history, pest-host plant-relationships and means of biological control, are all currently receiving considerable attention (Anon.'; Carnegies).

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service research programs on microbes for management of plant-parasitic nematodes.
Restrictions on the use of conventional nematicides have increased the need for new methods of managing plant-parasitic nematodes. Consequently, nematode-antagonistic microbes, and active compounds produced by such organisms, are being explored as potential additions to management practices. Programs in this area at the USDA Agricultural Research Service investigate applied biocontrol agents, n...

Mahanarva fi mbriolata (Stål) is an important pest in Latin America and causes signifi cant reduction in sugarcane productivity. There is no information regarding the effect of this pest on the quality of cane juice used for sugar and alcohol production. This work aimed at evaluating the quality of sugarcane juice from plants attacked by spittlebugs. The experiment was arranged in a completely ...

Introduction: The nematophagus fungi have been suggested as an alternative way to eliminate the zoonotic helminths eggs from the environment. In the present study, we evaluated the ovicidal activity of a fungus, Paecilomyces lilacinus, recovered from a compost soil, on the eggs of parasitic helminths under in vitro condition. Methods: Water suspension of the soil samples collected from differen...
متن کاملInfluence of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in sugarcane productivity under semiarid tropical agro ecosystem in India
Impact of Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in sugarcane productivity was assessed through a field experiment from plant and ratoon sugarcane in Tamil Nadu, India. Control, 12.5 and 18.75 kg ha-1 of AMF along with 75% and 100% of phosphorous application were triedas treatments. 18.75 kg ha-1 AMF applied plots showed significant difference in germination percentage, tiller number, internode...
متن کاملBelowground Ecology of Scarabs Feeding on Grass Roots: Current Knowledge and Future Directions for Management in Australasia
Many scarab beetles spend the majority of their lives belowground as larvae, feeding on grass roots. Many of these larvae are significant pests, causing damage to crops and grasslands. Damage by larvae of the greyback cane beetle (Dermolepida albohirtum), for example, can cause financial losses of up to AU$40 million annually to the Australian sugarcane industry. We review the ecology of some s...
